Financial Literacy Programme for HK primary students

TWF is delighted to have been selected by the Investor Education Centre's education platform, “The Chin Family”, to be a programme partner for its new Financial Literacy Programme for HK primary students. The Chin Family is managed by the IEC, which is supported by the Education Bureau and all four financial regulators.

We are humbled by, and grateful for, this recognition of TWF's passion for, and expertise in, running successful grassroots financial literacy programmes - from TWF's Financial Literacy & Employability Programme for Marginalised Women to the financial literacy stream of our Life Skills Programme for Adolescent Teens.

At TWF, we passionately believe that financial literacy is the starting point for individuals to take control of, and assume responsibility for, their own future. To us, financial literacy is not about becoming an expert in managing money but about learning to make smart, well thought-out decisions, being able to identify and assess risks, being disciplined about planning and putting plans into action, and knowing when to seek advice and help from others.

We also know that money management can be an intimidating subject which is rife with stereotypes - in particular, that financial matters are a male domain. We have been so heartened by the impact of our Financial Literacy Programme on our female participants' self confidence and courage to make positive changes around them. We are also delighted by how our participants have drawn on their learnings from the Programme to model smart budgeting and money management decisions and teach these skills to their children. We are thrilled that two of our Financial Literacy & Employability Training Programme Ambassadors have been invited to share their money saving strategies at the IEC's Education Fair on February 18 as part of Money Month.

We will be working with the IEC to design and run financial literacy programmes in five primary schools in Hong Kong impacting over 600 students in total. If you would like to nominate a local primary school to participate in the Programme, please contact Connie Cheung at connie.cheung@twfhk.org.
