English for Opportunity
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
English for Opportunity empowers female secondary students to build confidence in spoken English through meaningful conversations with corporate volunteers.
Programme objectives:
Strengthen confidence and skills in listening and speaking English
Build practical communication skills for academic and career success.
Build a supportive network through connecting with corporate volunteers
Connect students with professionals for guidance, exposure, and support.
Broaden perspectives by exposing students to diverse role models
Inspire aspirations through real-world insights and career journeys.
Programme Highlights
The programme creates a safe, supportive space for secondary school students from under-resourced communities to practise real-world English and expand their horizons through meaningful connections with volunteers from different walks of life.
Over six weeks, students practise spoken English through real-life topics, helping it feel like a practical life skill rather than an exam subject.
Students engage in small-group discussion with volunteers from diverse backgrounds, giving them space to ask questions, share ideas and build confidence using English in a supportive environment.
Sessions are primary delivered online to ensure accessibility, with the programme concluding in an in-person event to celebrate their progress.
Feedback from students and volunteers helps us continuously improve the programme and better support students’ growth and confidence.

Volunteers expressed surprise at the participants' substantial improvement—from being extremely shy and lacking confidence to speaking up publicly—and reiterated their strong support for the gender stereotype topic, believing early exposure raises crucial awareness.
