Digital Literacy Programme
About The Programme
The Digital Literacy Programme was tailor-made for disadvantaged parents and their daughters (senior primary students) with the aim to debunk parent’s negative stereotypes that STEM skills, subjects and careers are more suitable for boys; enhance their tech-related knowledge; and better enable parents to foster their daughters’ interest in and confidence around STEM topics early on.
Objective
The Programme aimed to empower disadvantaged parents with fundamental digital literacy skills, while fostering girls' interest in STEM, challenging societal perceptions of STEM as a male domain, and inspiring ongoing learning beyond the workshop
Key Programme Elements
With a focus on challenging stereotypes, enhancing tech-related knowledge, and fostering early interest in STEM, the Programme equips parents with fundamental digital literacy skills, relevant parenting guidance, and basic employability skills. It aims to shift society's perception of STEM as a male domain and inspire participants to continue their learning journey beyond the workshops. Currently, a total of 120 participants, including parents and their daughters, schools and corporate partners, have benefited from the programme.
Impact
Each cycle, in collaboration with primary schools and NGOs, parents and their daughters engaged in five coding workshops focused on hands-only STEM projects relevant to their daily lives which was supplemented with a parent-only workshop on skills around positive internet usage. Each workshop served 20 pairs of parents and their daughters.
