Morgan Stanley and The Women's Foundation Join Forces to Empower Disadvantaged Girls Pursuing University STEM Degrees in Hong Kong
In October 2022, Morgan Stanley announced the launch of the Institute for Inclusion’s (IFI) Step into STEM Scholarship Scheme in Hong Kong. In collaboration with non-profit partner The Women’s Foundation (TWF), the programme will support students in need in Hong Kong by providing them financial assistance and skill-building opportunities. The scholarship aims to help address the structural under-representation of women from underserved communities pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) related degrees.
“Helping to address systemic inequities in education and career outcomes for young adults from low-to-moderate income backgrounds is a core focus of Morgan Stanley’s Institute for Inclusion,” commented Claire Goodchild, Asia Head of Diversity & Inclusion at Morgan Stanley, “We are delighted to be supporting young women in Hong Kong to further their studies in STEM, and we hope this initiative will set them up for long term career success.”
“STEM skills are critical to future jobs,” Fiona Nott, CEO of The Women's Foundation remarked. “At TWF, one of our key aims is to ensure girls are equipped with the support, confidence and skills they need to pursue meaningful, in-demand careers -- regardless of background. Access to STEM in higher education is a key part of that. This is why we are thrilled to partner with Morgan Stanley to provide scholarships to disadvantaged girls to pursue STEM degrees and grow the pipeline of female talent entering into STEM-related careers.”
The Step into STEM Scholarship will provide financial assistance to secondary school girls in Hong Kong who are interested in pursuing a STEM career. Scholarships will be awarded to selected eligible students who are admitted to a full-time STEM degree at a university in Hong Kong starting in September 2023. Applications are open to participants from TWF’s Girls Go Tech (GGT) Programme, which is designed to encourage disadvantaged secondary school girls to gain confidence and skills in STEM, and empower them to pursue traditionally male-dominated STEM-related subjects to maximise their future career opportunities.
As the Scholarship Scheme Sponsor, Morgan Stanley will also launch the English for STEM initiative, an opportunity for GGT participants to enhance and build confidence in their English language capabilities through workshops with volunteer mentors from Morgan Stanley.
We will be organising the Step into STEM Scholarship Insights Day on October 28, 2022. Additional details and the application form will be announced then.
