TEDxWanChaiWomen piloted a fellowship Youth & Diversity Scholarship Program, which invites ten students from across Hong Kong to attend the event and meet with speakers, aiming to give these young leaders the experience to spark change in the larger Hong Kong community. The program earned the TEDxWanChai team a spot as one of 10 Great TEDxWomen Events From Around the Globe by the TEDxInnovations blog.
We know that when young people attend TED events, five different things happen:
First - The energy: As one of the original TED organisers said, you get a kinetic energy from young people that is unlike anything else.
Secondly - The creativity: Young people have unique, extreme, sometimes crazy!, ideas that an adult might usually not think of.
Thirdly - The empowerment: Inviting kids to participate and then hearing them talk intelligently and passionately about their experience reminds one that kids are capable of much more than you expect.
Fourthly - The enthusiasm for new ideas: It was amazing and humbling to see how thankful the kids were (and still are!) to be given a place at today's event: They really see TED as an incredible learning opportunity and you can tell they are really engaged with everything that's going on.
Finally The confidence in the future: All in all, we hope the event will create an awareness in their young minds that they can do whatever they set out to achieve.
